Has anyone developed a way to use the Heathkit SA-2040 to tune 160 meters? Thanks! Ken K0DVT |

The parts are too small. They are a little small to cover 80 meters. The inductor is just 12uH and the output capacitor is just 170pF. It would make more sense to homebrew a transmatch with parts sized appropriately. I'd make the inductor at least 50 uH and the capacitors around 1000pF. If you aren't worried about 10 meters but just the low bands you don't need to worry about short lead lengths and stray reactances. It could be a relatively easy beginner project if you have basic skills with building things or assembling household stuff, Zak W1VT ARRL Senior Lab Engineer |
