BODIPY Fluorophores are novel fluorophores. They have high fluorescence quantum yield, high molar extinction coefficient, excellent photo-stability, insensitive to environmental pH and so on. In addition, its chemical structure is easy to modify. Functionalization of the BODIPY core would form a series of derivatives, which can be used in the fields of environmental monitoring and biological sciences, etc. The specific functionalized BODIPY fluorophores are suitable for the selective analysis and detection of extremely small amounts of inorganic or organic ions and molecules. Fluorescence detection generally works through the following three mechanisms: Photoinduced Electron Transfer (PET), Intramolecular Charge Transfer (ICT) and Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer (FRET).
