What did you decide to do? I have been using a half wave vertical on 20 but limited to one band right now. Wondering how these no radial verticals perform. |

I came here to ask the same question about Verticals. I want an HF Vertical that will be easy to install and maintain. I have a disability and confined to a wheelchair so simply is the only way for me to go since I will have to hire an installer. Thanks. |

I'm considering installing a Hy-Gain Hy-Tower AV-18HT 10-80m vertical with options to include 17 & 160m bands as well. I understand it's an involved build, with radials recommended, but apparently considered the overall best available. I'm still studying the possibilities, and planning my purchase shopping list. --Ron. KA5ITO |

I've changed mt 10 meter vertical from 1/4 to half wave. My SWR was raise alot. One the 1/4 wave I use a simple choke balum but it doesnt seem to work for the half. Any ideas on the type of transformer I should use and how to make it? I am also using 450 ohm ladder line for this. tnx-gregg kb9fnn |

You may want to try experimenting with a quarter wavelength of 450 ohm ladder line feeding the vertical and a 1:1 choke balun at the transmitter end to transition to 50 ohms. You will unbalanced the ladder line, but the unbalanced line may yield acceptable performance,. It may be hard to find a simpler solution that uses the parts you already have. I use a Zero 5, 43 foot vertical. 100 watt transmit from St Louis and first contact was San Pablo, Brazil. Routinely hit Europe,Australia and New Zeeland. Antenna is robust, easily erected and customer service is excellent. |
