ARRL in Action: What Have We Been Up to Lately?

The ARRL briefed members of the White House staff on Amateur Radio’s capabilities during emergencies.

Radio amateurs around the country are gearing up for the annual Simulated Emergency Test.

The ARRL is seeking a new Treasurer. After more than 31 years of distinguished service to the ARRL as its volunteer Treasurer, Jim McCobb, K1LU, has announced his retirement.

The ARRL Lab is investigating power line noise cases in Western Pennsylvania. ARRL Lab Engineer Mike Gruber, W1MG, has been working with a member in Florida who is trying to develop a cure for an RFI problem involving a pushed dc motor in an HVAC system.

The ARRL Facebook page now has more than 20,000 fans.

The ARRL announced the winners of the 2010 ARRL Doug DeMaw, W1FB, Technical Excellence Award.

A new issue of Spectrum Defense Matters was mailed to ARRL members.

Yaesu donated an FT DX 5000 and an SM-5000 Station Monitor to W1AW.

The deadline for the ARRL Third Homebrew Challenge is fast approaching.

The ARRL invites nominations for its 2011 International Humanitarian Award.

Ballots for the Director elections in the Atlantic, Delta and Midwest Divisions have been mailed.

A new QuickStats poll was made available on the ARRL website.

The winner of the QST Cover Plaque Award for September is Robert Miller, KE6F, for his article “Yet Another Crystal Calibrator -- The YACC 1-2-3.

The November issue of QST was released to the printer.

A new pin for ARRL Volunteer Examiners is available in the ARRL Online Store.

Official Observer Desk: ARRL Field and Regulatory Correspondent Chuck Skolaut, K0BOG, handled complaints regarding interference on 2 meters originating from a wireless clock syncing program, bootleg call signs, unlicensed use on 10 meters, reports of fishermen on 80 meters, an unidentified signal on 30 meters in Hawaii and complaints regarding activity on 14.313 MHz. He also answered questions regarding repeater control, operating overseas, antenna restrictions, uncoordinated repeaters, propagation and weather net information used by broadcast stations.
