This week, Surfin’ recalls the hits and misses at the 2010 Dayton Hamvention.
I attended the Dayton Hamvention last week. The weather and turnout was good, but the convention is so big that attendees (including me) run out of time (or gas) and never see the whole event.
To see what you and I missed, Keith Zeringue, W4KAZ, compiled a comprehensive list of Web pages where you can view photos, videos and blog posts related to the 2010 edition of the Hamvention. Visit Keith’s 2010 Hamvention Blogroll to virtually visit the big show in Dayton. And if you are aware of anything absent from Keith’s list, let him know and he will add it if it is appropriate.
Although I did not see everything, one booth I made sure to visit was Jeff Murray’s, K1NSS, Dashtoons booth. I have written about Jeff and his Dashtoons here before and raved about his book -- I did not want to miss an opportunity to meet him in person.
Jeff's booth featured his new book, Sky Buddies, which, by the way, is as enjoyable as his first book; he also had some cool freebies to giveaway to promote his product. One freebie was a Worked All Dayton certificate awarded to anyone “who, like Dash! the dog-faced ham, is genuinely certifiable as evidenced by attendance at this celebration of playing Amateur Radio and hauling home whatever the cat dragged in.” Keeping in the spirit of the Dashtoons canine theme, another freebie that Jeff proffered was a sequentially-numbered dog bone insulator!
I enjoyed meeting and chatting with Jeff and recommend visiting his Ham Radio Cartoons Web site to learn more about Jeff and his wacky work.
Until next time, keep on surfin’!
Editor note: Stan Horzepa, WA1LOU, was definitely influenced by working at a comic book factory for many years; positively or negatively is still a matter of debate. To contact Stan, send him e-mail via [email protected] or add comments to his blog.
