SB SPCL @ ARL $ARLX052 ARLX052 Hurricane Marilyn 1 ZCZC AX22 QST de W1AW Special Bulletin 52 ARLX052 From ARRL Headquarters Newington CT September 16, 1995 To all radio amateurs SB SPCL ARL ARLX052 ARLX052 Hurricane Marilyn 1 At 8 pm EDT/AST or 0000z, Friday, September 15, the center of Hurricane Marilyn was located near latitude 17.9 North, longitude 64.8 West, or just north and very near St. Croix. It is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph and this motion is expected to continue through Saturday. On this course, Marilyn will move by the remaining U.S. Virgin islands and near the eastern tip of Puerto Rico tonight. Hurricane warnings continue in effect for U.S. and British Virgin Islands northwestward through Puerto Rico. A hurricane watch is in effect for the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic from Cabrera to Cabo Engano. Maximum sustained winds are near 100 mph. Some additional slow strengthening is possible and Marilyn could become a Category 3 hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson scale tonight or Saturday. Amateurs are advised to monitor storm-related nets, especially the Hurricane Watch Net on or near 14.325 MHz, but to not transmit on emergency net frequencies unless directed to do so by net control stations.
